National Organizations

 

American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP)
The Academy of Student Pharmacists is the student section of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), representing more than 18,000 student pharmacists at all colleges of pharmacy in the United States and Puerto Rico. The mission of the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) is to be the collective voice of student pharmacists, to provide opportunities for professional growth, to improve patient care, and to envision and advance the future of pharmacy.

 

American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP)

The American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) serves as the national representation and voice of psychiatric pharmacists. As the first and only collegiate chapter of AAPP in the greater Houston area, we offer our students early exposure to the profession as well as a network platform to support their career aspirations. Furthermore, we educate about mental health illness to decrease stigma and enhance the use of first-person language, and connect that knowledge to the role and responsibilities of a psychiatric pharmacist.

Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP)
AMCP is a national organization devoted to the development of the profession of managed care pharmacy. The mission of the organization is "to improve patient health by ensuring access to high-quality, cost-effective medications and other therapies." The AMCP student chapter is dedicated to exposing students to the many roles in this non-traditional field.

 

American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP)

Further disseminate knowledge about the profession of consultant and senior care pharmacy and to play an integral part in advocating for future pharmacists’ participation in consultant and senior care activities that provide America’s growing senior population with the medication related services necessary to live longer, healthier lives. The role of a student chapter is to further disseminate knowledge and information about the profession of consultant and senior care pharmacy and to play an integral part in carrying out the mission and specific goals of the Society. ASCP depends on student chapters to advocate for future pharmacists’ participation in consultant and senior care activities that provide America’s growing senior population with the medication related services necessary to live longer, healthier lives.

 

National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA)
The National Community Pharmacists Association, founded in 1898 as the National Association of Retail Druggists (NARD), represents the pharmacist owners, managers, and employees of more than 23,000 independent community pharmacies across the United States. Not only focused on those who are interested in creating their own pharmacy, but also focused on the business aspect of retail pharmacy. Exceptionally benefiting those who would love to become a pharmacy manager.

 

Student College of Clinical Pharmacy (SCCP)
The Student College of Clinical Pharmacy is the student chapter of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Our local chapter is dedicated to serving those interested in clinical pharmacy through promoting patient care, education, research and interprofessionalism. Our aim is to transform students into clinicians by introducing a variety of clinical specialties, exposing students to research and by providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through events such as: networking workshops, seminar development, and experiential and educational opportunities.

 

Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO)

 IPhO is the first and only nationally recognized industry focused professional pharmacy organization. The UH chapter is dedicated to utilizing various national resources to inform students of all that industry pharmacy can consist of, and how they can pursue a career in this path. IPhO aims to empower students for future roles as pharmacists in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

 

Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA)
SNPhA was founded in 1972 as an affiliate of the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA). SNPhA is an educational and service association of students who are concerned about pharmacy issues, professional development, and the lack of minority representation in pharmacy and other health-related professions. Student Society of Health-System Pharmacy (SSHP)

SSHP encompasses interests of hospital, clinical, and other health-system pharmacy professions. It is affiliated with GCSHP (Gulf Coast), TSHP (Texas), and ASHP (American) chapters. SSHP provides excellent opportunities to network and learn about post-graduate residency training from current residents, program directors, and clinical pharmacists through the Residency Preparation Series, which includes events such as the Residency Workshop and Residency Mentoring Social. SSHP is also dedicated to providing Antibiotic Awareness and Medication Safety outreach programs and improving students' clinical skills through various competitions. Vietnamese-American Pharmacy Student Society (VAPSS)
The mission of VAPSS is to encourage all Vietnamese-American pharmacy students to participate and become well-informed in all aspects of the pharmacy profession.
 

 
 

Local Organizations

African Pharmacy Student Association (APSA)

APSA is a culturally based pharmaceutical organization that stands on offering community to African American students, and create cohesion among African-American students, faculty/staff, and the UHCOP community, as well as the opportunity to learn about diverse African and African diasporic cultures.

 

Chrisitian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI)

CPFI is a worldwide, interdenominational ministry of individuals working in all areas of pharmaceutical service and practice.

 

Hispanic Pharmacy Student Association (HPSA)

The purpose of HPSA is to encourage and promote unity among pharmacy students with common interests, values, and back- grounds. Members participate in a variety of activities which include community outreach, fundraising projects, Spanish peer tutoring and counseling within an entertaining atmosphere outside the classroom. HPSA serves to promote cultural awareness by educating, assisting and supporting Hispanic communities through health care and community development.

 

Never Generic Podcast

The mission of Never Generic is to help inform other pharmacy students about the field of pharmacy and promote the pharmacy profession. The podcast covers professional pharmacy topics, drug therapy discussions and life tips for pharmacy students.

Pharmaceutical Association of the Middle East and South Asia (PhAMSA)

PhAMSA is a cultural pharmaceutical organization focused on increasing pharmacy students’ access to populations of different cultural backgrounds. Each of our meetings will continue to have a portion of time dedicated to a presentation on a specific culture, with great food, and guest speaks of various fields in pharmacy. We plan to have health fairs in different settings such as a temple, mosque, and church. Finally, our socials will continue to be vibrant, filled with dancing, delicious food, and an opportunity to learn more about different cultures while being immersed in its liveliness. As student pharmacists, it is imperative to be culturally competent, comfortable, and aware of how to interact with patients of various backgrounds.

 

Professional Fraternities 

Kappa Epsilon (KE)

Kappa Epsilon is a co-ed professional pharmacy fraternity, whose mission is to empower its members to achieve personal and professional fulfillment. The fraternity was founded in 1921 and the UH chapter, Upsilon, was formed in 1953. KE is philanthropically focused with breast and ovarian cancer and brings awareness through various events such as Awareness Week, and the Susan G. Komen Fun Run

 

Kappa Psi (KY) 

Kappa Psi is a co-ed pharmaceutical fraternity. It is the world’s oldest and largest pharmaceutical fraternity, founded in 1879. The Delta Delta chapter at UH was chartered in 1963. The goals of the fraternity are to develop fellowship, industry, sobriety and foster high ideals while promoting scholarship and pharmaceutical research.

 

Phi Delta Chi

Phi Delta Chi (PDC): Phi Delta Chi was chartered in 1883 and the Alpha Tau Chapter was chartered at UH in 1953. We are a co-ed fraternity of professional men and women striving for success as future pharmacists by becoming involved in national, state, and local activities. PDC offers its members a strong brotherhood of friendship, instills values of leadership and community involvement in the Houston community and in cooperation with St. Judes, and organizes social events to help relieve the pressures of pharmacy school.

 

Honor Societies

Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS)

Phi Lambda Sigma is the National Pharmacy Leadership Honor society. Chartered in 1988, the Upsilon Chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma at the UH strives to improve the quality of our

pharmacy school leaders so that they may acquire the skills needed to be an effective pharmacist and an active future leader in the profession of pharmacy. Membership crosses fraternal and organizational lines allowing the Society to recognize and promote leadership without competing with other pharmacy organizations. Rho Chi

The Rho Chi Society is the honorary organization for the profession of pharmacy. The Beta Omicron chapter of UH was established in 1956. Membership is by invitation and is based on high academic achievement in the professional curriculum.
